I heard Takayama got hit with a huge snowstorm a few days ago, so I'm so glad I got to see it on a clear, sunny day! It's an absolutely beautiful city. Here’s a quick guide to my one-day adventure.
My Takayama Itinerary
Hie Shrine (日枝神社): This was my top highlight! It’s a famous spot from the movie Your Name and was even more beautiful than in the anime. There were hardly any people, and I highly recommend going around 4-5 PM to catch the stunning evening sun—the photos I took were magical.
Miyagawa Morning Market (高山宮川朝市): I made sure to get here early because the market closes at noon. The heart-shaped egg waffles were delicious, and I loved walking along the beautiful river.
Old Town & Takayama Jinya: I explored the old streets and took some photos outside Takayama Jinya. I didn’t get to go inside because I was rushing to the shrine, but I heard it’s worth it. As for the snacks on the old street, I found them a little disappointing and wouldn't really recommend them.
My Hotel Recommendation: Takayama Green Hotel
This hotel was a game-changer! I can't recommend it enough. My room was absolutely massive and so comfortable, with traditional Japanese decor that was perfect for photos. The onsen area had both indoor and outdoor baths that were just the right size. My favorite part was grabbing a bottle of milk from the vending machine after my soak—it was the perfect end to a perfect day. I stayed for two nights, and it was a truly relaxing and wonderful experience.
