Takeo Onsen Romon
One of its characteristics is that the entire building is constructed without a single nail, creating a majestic and elegant charm. It was designed by Kingo Tatsuno, a Saga-born architect known for his design of Tokyo Station. Originally planned as a base for Takeo Onsen, which later developed into a hot spring town and tourist destination, it was completed in 1915.
Takeo Onsen New Building
Located behind the Takeo Onsen Tower Gate, it was completed in 1915, the same year as the Takeo Onsen Tower Gate. Designed by Kingo Tatsuno, it is also a designated Important Cultural Property of Japan.
The Japanese-style architecture, with vibrant colors like red, white, and dark green, is charming.
Originally used as a public bath, it later closed for restoration due to deterioration.
It now serves as a museum dedicated to Takeo Onsen, showcasing valuable materials and collections, including a bath built specifically for Emperor Taisho.
Takeo City Library
This modern library features the Tsutaya Bookstore, where you can purchase books, magazines, and sundries, as well as a café. The interior is filled with a warm, wooden atmosphere, and books line the second floor ceiling, creating a breathtaking display of the museum's impressive collection. The Takeo City Library has become an indispensable part of Takeo's tourist scene. Whether you're browsing Takeo's sightseeing guides or enjoying a cup of coffee, the library is a great place for both locals and tourists to relax. The library also hosts a variety of events, including lectures, seminars, and markets.
The Historical Museum houses over 16,000 items donated by the Nabeshima family and regularly hosts exhibitions focusing on the area. The adjacent Takeo City Children's Library boasts approximately 20,000 books and frequently hosts family events, including storytelling. Beyond just books, the library offers a variety of activities for both adults and children to enjoy together.
