Daxi Old Street

Daxi was the earliest developed place in Taoyuan. Through small sailboats sailing on the Dahan River, trade with the mainland flourished, creating many businesses and merchants. Baroque architectural style was popular during the Taisho era of Japanese rule. The shops on old streets such as Heping Road and Zhongshan Road combined Baroque flourishes with traditional Minnan decorative patterns, including Greek mountaintops, Roman columns, and Chinese fish, bats and other auspicious patterns, forming a unique feature of Daxi. Because Heping Old Street was developed relatively late, the old houses are well preserved. The street is lined with specialty shops and is very lively.
