Windswept Wonders and Wombats on Maria Island

#holidayitinerary Maria Island is a wild little paradise just off the coast of Tasmania, and getting there is already an adventure. You catch a ferry from Triabunna, and it’s about a 30-minute ride across pretty blue waters. Once you land, there are no cars, no shops, just nature doing its thing. We rented bikes and cruised past old ruins, eucalyptus forests, and quiet beaches. The Painted Cliffs were unreal during low tide and super photogenic. The Fossil Cliffs were also super cool if you're into prehistoric stuff.

Best part? Wombats everywhere. Seriously, they’re so chill and just waddle right past you like you’re not even there. We camped overnight, and it was quiet and kind of magical under the stars. Bring food and water because there’s nowhere to buy anything once you’re on the island. Also, pack for all weather, because it changes fast. If you want to unplug and meet some of the cutest wildlife ever, Maria’s got you covered.
