✨Tianjin Museum has launched a new wave of exhibitions at the turn of the year. I finally had the time to see the new exhibitions, and the quality is superb, making it immersive and unforgettable.
1️⃣ "Tiankai Unity - Qin and Han Cultural Relics Themed Exhibition"
🌱Before January 10, the star exhibit here was the Hebei Provincial Museum's treasure, the Changxin Palace Lantern. Currently, a replica is on display, but all other exhibits are significant.
🌱The first impressive exhibit is the Ziyou Stele fragment, a fine example of early Eastern Han Dynasty clerical script. It's impressive not because I understand steles or calligraphy, but because a visitor in the exhibition hall said, "I saw the other half of this stele at the Chinese Characters Museum and heard that this half is in Tianjin, so I came all the way from Hebei to see it." This is one of the meanings of travel.
🌱The multiplication table on the Liye Qin bamboo slips is the world's earliest and most complete physical example of a multiplication table. Multiplication tables are the mathematical enlightenment for all Chinese children, but it is said that they can instantly surpass most Westerners in mathematical calculations.
🌱Other Liye Qin bamboo slips in the exhibition hall vividly record the lives of ancient people, including household registrations and IOUs.
🌱Scholars believe that the Liye Qin bamboo slips are another major discovery in Qin Dynasty archaeology after the Terracotta Army, and the research results will greatly fill in the gaps in historical materials.
🌱The unicorn from Gansu Provincial Museum is very cute. It's made of painted wood from the Western Han Dynasty and was unearthed from the Ma Zuizi Han Tomb in Wuwei. It maintains a forward-charging posture. If it could talk, it would probably be shouting "Charge!"
2️⃣ "Gathering Jade Treasures - Exhibition of Ancient Chinese Jade from the Museum Collection"
🌱A gentleman's virtue is compared to jade. Chinese jade culture has a long history. Jade, noble, pure, steadfast, and warm, embodies countless good wishes. This is my first time visiting the "Gathering Jade Treasures" exhibition hall, which showcases the Tianjin Museum's jade collection.
3️⃣ "Forbidden City Legacy - Exhibition of Palace Artifacts from Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei"
🌱Thanks to the fall of the Qing Dynasty, we can see these exhibits from the palace.
🌱Upon entering the exhibition hall, the first things I saw were the "work permits" of various positions in the imperial palace, such as the imperial concubine's seal, the Empress Dowager's side seal, the prince's promotion gold book, and tokens for entering and exiting the palace. Indeed, the imperial palace was also a workplace.
🌱The cultural relics here comprehensively showcase palace life, including clothing, food, the Four Treasures of the Study, porcelain, and various handicrafts. It's truly eye-opening.
4️⃣ "Customs of Gushang - Tianjin Folk Crafts Exhibition"
🌱This exhibition hall is full of Tianjin folk crafts, mostly Yangliuqing New Year pictures. Stepping into the exhibition hall is like traveling back to old Tianjin. The design of the main image wall is inspired by the "Beiyang Pictorial," using a juxtaposition of color blocks and linear patterns, presenting a Mondrian-style deconstructed style.
🕰️Tianjin Museum opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 9:00-17:00
💰Tickets: Free admission with ID card (no reservation required)
