Jingyuan Garden in Tianjin | An Important Mark of Puyi in Tianjin

During the Republic of China period, Puyi was expelled by the Beiyang government to live in Tianjin. The relatively well-preserved former residence today is Jingyuan Garden.
In this courtyard with Spanish-style architecture, you can leisurely observe the living conditions of Puyi with Wanrong and Consort Shu, as well as many historical threads of the Puyi family.
The layout of the former residence's exhibits basically maintains the original room distribution, with simple displays. Most areas are occupied by photo exhibitions and cultural and creative businesses, somewhat resembling a tourist attraction, which reduces the immersive feeling of the former residence, which is a bit regrettable.
In Tianjin, visiting celebrity former residences is a pleasure. Few cities have as many important historical figures' former residences from the Beiyang and Republic of China periods as Tianjin does.
However, the cultural tourism development of former residences in Tianjin is relatively rough, and with a large amount of so-called "cultural and creative" products, some have lost sight of the essence. For example, the former residences of Zhang Xueliang and Eileen Chang feel somewhat vulgarized.
In this regard, the former residence of Cao Yu is quite pure. It also has cultural and creative shops, but they are mostly related to literature and drama, which is very elegant.
