[Donkatsu Niimura Main Store] Open until 6 AM! A 60-year-old thick and crispy tonkatsu restaurant in Shinjuku Kabukicho

Amid the dazzling neon signs, bustling streets, and lively atmosphere that lasts late into the night in Shinjuku Kabukicho, Donkatsu Niimura has been a staple for over 60 years.
The spacious restaurant, thick tonkatsu, and late operating hours are its biggest advantages.
If you need a hearty meal after a late night out in Shinjuku or want to enjoy authentic Japanese tonkatsu, I highly recommend Niimura Main Store!

📍 Location & Hours
✔ Location: 1 Chome-23-10 Kabukicho, Shinjuku City, Tokyo 160-0021
✔ Hours: 10:30 AM ~ 06:00 AM (Open until dawn!)
✔️ Cash and credit cards accepted

Most typical tonkatsu places close by evening,
but Niimura operates until 6 AM, so you can enjoy high-quality tonkatsu late at night or in the early morning!

They also offer a lunch menu, so visiting during the day is a good option!

🏠 A rare large-scale tonkatsu restaurant in Kabukicho! (3 floors 😲)
Usually, Kabukicho has many small izakayas or ramen shops, so it’s hard to find a tonkatsu specialty restaurant of this size,
but Niimura Main Store spans an impressive 3 floors!

✔ Even if there’s a wait, the turnover is quick, so you can get seated relatively fast.
✔ I was guided to the 3rd floor, where there was a separate smoking booth. However, the space under the smoking booth is open, so cigarette smoke might leak out, which was a bit disappointing.
🚬 Fortunately, no one was smoking while I was there, so it wasn’t an issue, but non-smokers should keep this in mind!

🍽 Menu Introduction
What I ordered 👇
✔ Rosukatsu Set Meal 2100 yen
✔ Black Pork Rosukatsu Set Meal 3500 yen

💡 Difference between Rosukatsu and Black Pork Rosukatsu?
Honestly, I’m not a gourmet, so I can’t say for sure,
but the black pork definitely had a more chewy and springy texture!

🥗 Salad & Sesame Dressing are a must!
The cabbage salad served with the tonkatsu tastes amazing with sesame dressing!
The dressing is nutty and pairs really well with the tonkatsu.

💰 Prices are a bit on the higher side, but worth it!
✔ It feels slightly more expensive than other tonkatsu places,
✔ but considering the central Shinjuku location + large store + late hours, it’s reasonable!
✔ You can enjoy it more affordably by going for the lunch menu!

Since it’s a tonkatsu place in Shinjuku Kabukicho, there were many tourists.
Because of that, the menu was well-prepared in various languages like English and Korean, so ordering was easy!

However, seeing many local Japanese customers as well, it felt like a genuinely popular local tonkatsu spot, not just a tourist-targeted restaurant.

Next time, I definitely want to try the cheese tonkatsu or curry tonkatsu! 🧀🍛
