Ueno Onshi Park in Tokyo is truly a place that makes you want to stay forever. It’s Japan’s first public park, located in Taito Ward, Tokyo, covering about 530,000 square meters—spacious and incredibly comfortable. This place is rich in history and culture, with vast green spaces, lakes, and forests. The natural scenery is truly enchanting, and stepping inside instantly relaxes you.
I happened to visit in spring, when the cherry blossoms were in full bloom and absolutely stunning. There was even a cherry blossom festival going on, creating a wonderful atmosphere. Although there were many visitors, it never felt crowded. Besides cherry blossoms, you can also enjoy lotus flowers, peonies, chrysanthemums, and more—making it worth visiting in every season. The entire park is very clean and well-maintained, making it impossible not to take tons of photos.
The park also offers a wide variety of delicious food. I was lucky to catch the Izu Gourmet Week this time, so strolling around while eating was pure happiness. There were traditional snacks like grilled fish, grilled rice cakes, pan-fried dumplings, takoyaki, and fried noodles. The grilled fish and rice cakes looked just like those in Studio Ghibli animations—so delicious! Eating while walking and enjoying the scenery felt like a festival.
If you want to take photos, you definitely won’t be disappointed. Spots like the Tokyo National Museum, National Museum of Western Art, Ueno Zoo, Shinobazu Pond, and Gojo Tenjin Shrine all offer picturesque scenes. The row of torii gates at Gojo Tenjin Shrine really feels like a budget-friendly Kyoto version, and the photos come out just as stunning. The lotus and water lilies at Shinobazu Pond are also dreamy, and when the lighting is good, the shots look magical.
Overall, this is truly a must-visit spot in Tokyo. It has nature, culture, and food, and best of all, it’s incredibly photogenic—every shot looks great. If you haven’t been to Ueno Onshi Park yet, I highly recommend setting aside a day to explore and see it for yourself. You’ll definitely fall in love with this charming place.
