The only place to see pandas in the Kanto region! A classic sightseeing spot for families with children
□ Ueno Zoo (Onshi Ueno Zoo)
📍 Tokyo, Ueno
About a 7-minute walk from JR Ueno Station Park Exit or Shinobazu Exit.
There are two entrances to the zoo: the main gate is closer to the Park Exit, and the Benten Gate is closer to the Shinobazu Exit.
If you want to see the pandas first, I recommend entering through the Benten Gate.
However, entering from the main gate means you don’t have to climb a hill inside the park.
Strollers and wheelchairs are also available for rent!
The strollers are green with a cute panda pattern.
Around 10 a.m. on a holiday, the wait for the pandas was about 80 minutes!
There are two pandas, so the viewing waiting areas are divided into two spots.
Viewing time for the pandas is limited, which I thought was good for fair viewing. Also, pandas tend to be more active in the morning, and on this day, we saw them moving around a lot! By the way, they apparently stop moving if it gets too hot.
Other animals also get crowded with many people in the afternoon, so the morning is recommended. The red pandas were also very cute.
There are several places to eat, but we ate at the outdoor Cafe Chameleon.
French fries & fried chicken
Panda bun
Draft beer
Melon soda float
Prices are typical for a tourist spot, but the staff were friendly, and both the fried chicken and fries were crispy and delicious with high quality! The panda bun is a meat bun inside.
Be sure to visit the zoo on a nice day!
