TOKYO NATIONAL MUSEUM (Tokyo National Museum Hyokeikan) Hello Kitty 50th Anniversary Exhibition

Hello Kitty Exhibition ―When I Change, Kitty Changes Too― Hello Kitty 50th Anniversary Exhibition at TOKYO NATIONAL MUSEUM (Tokyo National Museum Hyokeikan)

The Hello Kitty 50th Anniversary Exhibition, which was also held in Dongdaemun, Korea, will be held at the Tokyo National Museum from November 1, 2024, to February 24, 2025. I will visit during my December trip to Tokyo. It is located in Ueno Park, making it easily accessible.

I booked through an agency and presented a QR code on-site for entry. Museum visits in Japan have become very convenient now. In early November, it was crowded, but on a Friday afternoon in December, I entered without waiting.

Ueno Park welcomes you with ginkgo trees and ginkgo leaves. A giant Kitty balloon also brightens up the place. The Kitty Cafe sells crepes and more, but it looks like a replica without an official feel, so I passed on it.

They took a photo at the entrance, and then I started the tour. Photography is allowed except in restricted areas. The exhibition is filled with Hello Kitty goods released over 50 years. It’s fun to find items you already own.

I’m not buying many goods these days, so I found about 20 items. The Hyokeikan building itself is a cultural property and very beautiful. The products collaborated with Kitty were gathered in one place, which was worth seeing. The Tokyo National Museum X Hello Kitty collaboration was special.

It takes about 30 minutes to see everything. Be sure to watch the video in the middle. Goods are sold in a separate space, and since they are only available here, they are popular. There is a wait time of over 30 minutes here. I passed on it.

If you go to Ueno Atre, there is an Atre X Hello Kitty photo spot, so don’t miss that either. The 50th anniversary exhibition isn’t particularly special, but if you’re a Kitty fan, it offers the merit of freely viewing official goods and the privilege of purchasing limited editions. Thank you.
