[Tokyo] One of the seven main temples of the Jodo sect with a history of 600 years, "Zojoji Temple"

Let's walk to "Zojoji Temple," located next to Shiba Park in Minato Ward, Tokyo 🚶

Situated at the foot of Tokyo Tower, a landmark of Tokyo, this place boasts a history of about 600 years and prospered as the family temple of the Tokugawa clan. It is said that six Tokugawa shoguns are buried here!

Also, Zojoji Temple suffered significant damage during the air raids of World War II, but the Sangedatsumon Gate, which escaped war damage, is the only building that retains the appearance from the early Edo period when it was built on a large scale. It is designated as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property of Japan!

The temple grounds are surprisingly spacious for being right in the heart of the city. Passing through the Sangedatsumon Gate, the "Main Hall" appears right before your eyes with a solemn presence that makes you involuntarily look up 👀

There are many historical legacies left, such as the "Koshoden," whose ceiling is painted by 120 Japanese painters, and the Tokugawa family mausoleum!

Among them, the sight of small Jizo statues called "Sentai Kosodate Jizo" standing side by side holding pinwheels was spectacular! The Jizo statues dressed in various costumes and the colorful pinwheels spinning created a somewhat mysterious atmosphere 😌
