Starbucks is a very familiar name to many people in Hong Kong. It is a famous coffee chain with branches all over the world. In April, we also introduced the Starbucks in Kyoto, which features a distinct Japanese style with decor dominated by Japanese elements and even tatami seating. Some of the drinks and food sold there are unique to Japan. This time, during our trip to Tokyo, we made a special visit to a four-story Starbucks in Nakameguro with floor-to-ceiling glass windows that let in plenty of natural light, perfect for taking photos.
Many people say that the Starbucks in Nakameguro is the most beautiful in all of Japan. I have no doubt about this because during cherry blossom season, the coffee shop is flanked by stunning cherry trees. Many people come here to enjoy coffee while admiring the blossoms, and at one time, you had to queue for one to two hours just to get inside.
However, we visited in June, so there weren’t many pilgrims coming to this Starbucks designed by the famous architect Kengo Kuma. Upon entering this Tokyo Roastery, we were immediately attracted by its unique decor, which is completely different from the chain stores in Hong Kong. It felt very fresh and new. Some might think it’s a waste to visit a coffee shop just to take photos while in Japan, but we simply enjoy a slow-paced travel lifestyle. Nakameguro is close to Daikanyama, so we also took the opportunity to explore the surroundings of Daikanyama, which mainly features upscale and tasteful fashion boutiques.
This hidden gem of a coffee shop is located by the Meguro River. The entire four-story building is filled with Kengo Kuma’s Japanese aesthetics and a grand copper roasting machine. Upon entering, start on the first floor at the Princi bakery, where you can indulge in freshly baked breads of various flavors. Then head to the second floor’s TEAVANA section to enjoy tea, and on the third floor, sip coffee cocktails at ARRIVIAMO™ MBAR. Each floor has its own unique charm and is worth taking photos. Kids can even make their own drinks, which made my little brother very happy.
