A 3-Day Trip Review Fully Immersed in Tokyo’s Local Vibes

This Tokyo trip wasn’t about flashy tourist spots but focused on the local atmosphere. The accommodation was in a quiet residential area near Ikebukuro, where every morning I saw Japanese locals getting ready for work, truly feeling like living in a neighborhood.

Day one started in Shin-Okubo! There were lots of Korean food places and a strong K-pop vibe, but surprisingly, many Japanese locals were there too. Then I moved to Takadanobaba Station and had a solo meal at a local ramen shop. Since it was a place people lined up for, the broth was rich and the noodles were perfectly chewy, which impressed me.

On the second day, I strolled through Ueno Park and even visited the zoo, then headed straight to Asakusa. I drew an omikuji (fortune) at Sensoji Temple and enjoyed ningyoyaki (doll-shaped cakes) on Nakamise Street, fully soaking up the Japanese atmosphere. In the evening, I explored Ginza Street and caught a glimpse of Tokyo Station’s night view.

The last day was spent sightseeing in Harajuku and Omotesando. Holding a crepe in hand, I browsed unique boutique shops to feel Tokyo’s trends, and ended the night at an izakaya in a back alley of Shinjuku, enjoying a Japanese-style assorted tempura and potato croquettes.

This Tokyo trip was not just a surface-level visit but truly a time to ‘feel’ the city. Next time, I want to stay longer and conquer each neighborhood.
