Shinjuku's Free High-Altitude Observation: Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building South and North Observation Decks

On the 45th floor of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building's Main Building No. 1 in Shinjuku, you can enjoy the stunning views from both the South and North observation decks for free. The elevators are separate, so I first visited the South Observation Deck, which offers the best views of Tokyo Tower and Skytree. The North Observation Deck, where people line up to play the piano, is open only until 5:30 PM and provides a panoramic view of Shinjuku's skyscraper-filled cityscape. The high-speed elevator from the first floor takes just 55 seconds to reach the top, and on clear days, you can even see Mount Fuji in the distance.
