Wuzhen Travel Guide: Strolling Through the Poetic Waterside Towns of Jiangnan
Wuzhen is located in Tongxiang, Zhejiang. As one of the six ancient towns in Jiangnan, it enjoys the reputation of being "China's last riverside village." The scenic area is mainly divided into East Scenic Zone, West Scenic Zone, South Scenic Zone, and North Scenic Zone. Among them, East Scenic Zone and West Scenic Zone are well-developed, and the night view of West Scenic Zone is especially well-known. South Scenic Zone and North Scenic Zone retain their original ecological features.
Best time to travel: Spring and autumn (March–May, September–November) have comfortable climates. Spring has misty rain, and autumn has the fragrance of osmanthus. In summer (June–August), you can participate in the Drama Festival or night tours, but you need to pay attention to preventing heatstroke. In winter (December–February), there are few tourists, and the waterside town is quiet, which is suitable for photography.
Transportation Guide: For external transportation, you can choose Hangzhou Xiaoshan or Shanghai Hongqiao Airport, and then transfer to a high-speed train or bus. After arriving at Tongxiang Station by high-speed train, you can take a taxi or the K282 bus to directly reach the destination. Internal transportation is suitable for walking, or you can take a gondola.
Must-visit attractions: West Scenic Zone (CNY 150) is recommended for night view appreciation and checking in at the Mu Xin Art Museum. In East Scenic Zone (CNY 110), you can visit Mao Dun's Former Residence and the Jiangnan Bed Museum. South Scenic Zone and North Scenic Zone are open for free and are full of life. It is more cost-effective to purchase a joint ticket for East and West Scenic Zones (CNY 190, valid on the same day).
Accommodation and food: Accommodation in West Scenic Zone is convenient for enjoying the scenery. Tong'an Inn and Waterside Resort Hotel are worth experiencing. B&Bs outside the scenic area are cost-effective. In terms of cuisine, mutton noodles, Dingsheng cake, and Wuzhen sauce duck are not to be missed. West Scenic Zone's Momo's Home and South Scenic Zone's Old Street Snacks are popular choices.
Itinerary suggestions: For a one-day tour, you can visit East Scenic Zone in the morning and West Scenic Zone in the afternoon. For a two-day tour, you can take a day to deeply explore West Scenic Zone on the first day, and visit East Scenic Zone and South and North Scenic Zones on the second day.
Helpful tips: Try to avoid holidays and wear comfortable shoes. Book tickets and accommodation in advance. It is better to experience the gondola in the early morning or evening. You can also rent Hanfu for photos or participate in blue calico DIY to immerse yourself in the charm of the ancient town.
