There is a fashion ancient town near Shanghai that I have always wanted to visit, and that is Puyuan Fashion Ancient Town, just a 30-minute high-speed train ride away.
Puyuan Fashion Ancient Town is located in Puyuan Town, Tongxiang. The overall architecture combines the charm of the Tang and Song dynasties, grand and magnificent. The ancient town has eight must-visit attractions: the thousand-year-old ginkgo tree, the mountain gate, the Coca-Cola Experience Center, Chaoyang Bridge, Yueyang Bridge, Beigeng Tower, Xufang Zen Garden, and Siwan Street. Inside, you can experience Tang and Song dynasty features, as well as art exhibitions, themed markets, and fashion spaces. We tried the celebrity-style rowing boat and enjoyed a unique scenery. Here, we were attracted by various beautiful views and highly designed art installations. Puyuan Fashion Ancient Town looks just as beautiful during the day and at night.
Such a beautiful place definitely deserves an overnight stay. When checking in, we were given 80 Wen Jiaozi coins. You can earn Jiaozi coins by interacting with NPCs on Siwan Street, and then enjoy the fun of using Jiaozi coins to buy your favorite items or play games. At night, we stayed at Meishang Resort Hotel inside the ancient town. From the room, you can enjoy views of the Jiangnan garden, and there is a Zen tea room in the room. Drinking tea and admiring the scenery is truly delightful.
There are many restaurants in the ancient town. We found a Hong Kong-style restaurant on Leli Street called Leli Ice Room. We never expected to find authentic Hong Kong cuisine here. The Hong Kong-style lemon tea was just right. We also ordered rose soy sauce chicken, which was tender and juicy. The shrimp paste sizzling cauliflower was delicious too. The dry-fried beef rice noodles were chewy, and the golden sand red rice sausage was very authentic, with fresh shrimp wrapped in crispy flakes—finished every bite. For dessert, the pistachio French toast was perfectly sweet, with the bread cut into small pieces and baked crispy. The portions were generous, and both Lulu and I were very full. There is a FamilyMart convenience store right across from the restaurant, so it’s very convenient to buy some snacks to take back to the room.
Every step here offers a new view. Besides wearing ancient costumes, fashionable outfits can also make great photos. Before checking out, we also went to take photos near Fushan Temple and got some satisfying shots. It was truly worth the trip.
Tips
You can take a high-speed train from Shanghai to Puyuan Fashion Ancient Town by buying tickets to either Jiaxing South Station or Tongxiang Station. Tongxiang Station has bus line 3 that goes directly to the scenic area.
