Lake Toya is a caldera lake formed by water accumulating in the remains of a huge eruption that occurred about 110,000 years ago. It is the third largest in Japan in terms of area, and in the center is an island made up of lava domes formed by an eruption about 50,000 years ago.

There are many hotel rooms in the area, and some hotels have views of Lake Toya and Mt. Yotei from their rooms. You can get there by bus or taxi from Toyako Station. Many of the hotels here offer hot springs. Even if you want to have a midnight snack late at night, there is a convenience store nearby, so you can enjoy it without worry.

When you arrive at Lake Toya, it is recommended that you take a boat at the port to sightsee. However, it may be better to go there with plenty of time in advance.
