Uji Byodoin, built during the Heian period, is a UNESCO World Heritage site located peacefully by the Uji River 🌊, surrounded by a pond fed by the river’s water. The temple complex includes the Phoenix Hall 🦅, Hoshokan Museum 🏛️, and other buildings, with visitors typically entering through the “Main Gate” 🚪.
The admission fee is 600 yen 🎟️, and after purchasing a ticket, visitors receive a booklet 📖 available in multiple languages including Chinese, English, and Japanese (one booklet per person). The main building, Phoenix Hall, stands majestically over the pond, with two golden phoenix statues facing each other on its roof — the same image found on the back of the Japanese 10 yen coin 🪙.
An additional ticket costing 300 yen is required to enter Phoenix Hall’s interior, which is highly recommended 👀.
