Located in Shangyue Village, Longshan Town, Fogang County, Qingyuan City, the Shangyue Ancient Residences were first constructed during the Southern Song Dynasty and flourished during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, boasting a history of over 720 years. Built on a hillside and surrounded by water, the village is divided into 18 li (li), each with 18 fish ponds. The houses are uniformly clad in blue bricks and black tiles, with carved beams and painted rafters. The "pot-eared buildings" (guoerlou) are staggered in height, creating a magnificent atmosphere. Relics, plaster sculptures, painted walls, and relief wood carvings are vividly displayed throughout, showcasing the distinctive Lingnan architectural style. Shangyue Ancient Residences is currently one of the largest and best-preserved ancient villages in Guangdong. In 2006, it was designated a "Guangdong Most Beautiful Village Demonstration Site" and in 2008, it was included in the first batch of Guangdong ancient villages. It is currently undergoing renovation according to the standards for a "Famous Historical and Cultural Village in China."
