Uji – Byodoin Phoenix Hall

One of the most stunning attractions in Uji, Kyoto, is the Byodoin Phoenix Hall. The entire atmosphere feels absolutely dreamy! 🏯 Built in 1053 by Fujiwara no Yorimichi, the main hall resembles a phoenix spreading its wings, seemingly floating on the pond. The reflection on the water is so breathtakingly beautiful that it leaves you speechless. 🌸💧

After finishing the almost otherworldly tour of Byodoin, I headed to the nearby Nakamura Tokichi Main Store to recharge, which turned out to be the highlight of the afternoon! Established in 1854, this historic tea shop is a must-visit matcha paradise in Uji. 🫖

I recommend getting a number ticket upon arrival in Uji, as the wait time is usually over an hour! I ordered the store-exclusive bamboo matcha parfait ("Maruto Parfait"), which includes matcha ice cream, red bean paste, mochi, matcha jelly, and roasted rice puffs. The texture is incredibly rich, and the sweetness is perfectly balanced, making it impossible to stop after just one bite. 😋
