Depart from Kumamoto and take the A train: Start a romantic railway journey to Amakusa

#7月好去地方2025

Kyushu's popular sightseeing train A-Train de Xing Kou runs between Kumamoto Station and Sankaku Station. Combining train and ferry journeys, it is a dream transportation method to explore the Amakusa Islands. After opening in 2011, it quickly became a popular train limited to holidays. It not only connects the Amakusa Treasure Island Line, but also makes the entire route full of cultural atmosphere and tourist charm.

The "A" in the name of the train is taken from Adult and Amakusa, symbolizing the elegant journey of adults and the Amakusa style. The exterior of the train is black and gold, and the interior was designed by designer Mitooka Eiji, full of the atmosphere of the European Age of Navigation in the 16th century. Car No. 1 has a bar counter A-TRAIN BAR, selling limited cocktails and beer, and Car No. 2 is a comfortable box-style seating space. The jazz music "Take the A Train" is played along the way, making the journey romantic and comfortable.

The train, a modified Kiha 185 series diesel train, features 84 reserved seats. It operates three round trips daily during weekends and long holidays, with some trains extending their service to Hakata Station. Passengers can combine the sightseeing train with a ferry or bus for a complete water and land journey from Kumamoto to Amakusa.
