The secret spot around Urumqi, Haxiong Valley, is perfect for kids and dogs!

📍Not to brag, but the scenery in Haxiong Valley is truly amazing!

🐶After being cooped up for the three-day Qingming holiday, the dog went wild as soon as we entered the mountain!

It's 52 km from the city center, about a 1.5-hour drive straight to the entrance of Tianshan National Forest Park. Reminder: lighters are now collected at the entrance, and there are signs for a fee collection code, so it looks like they’ll start charging admission soon. Hurry and go while it’s still free!

🅿️ Parking tips:

The first parking lot has a barbecue stall and restrooms opposite it (but the restrooms are locked 😅).

The second parking lot is further inside with less mountain walking, recommended for families with kids!

🌿 Tips for visiting:

· The mountain roads are slippery after rain, wear non-slip shoes! There’s leftover snow on the summit and shallow streams where kids and dogs can have a blast playing in the water (remember to bring towels and change of clothes).

· Picnicking on the shaded trails is super cozy. Although barbecuing is officially banned, some people secretly light fires… (shh, use your discretion)

✅ Summary:

· Free! The environment is pristine, dogs play until they snore, kids get so tired they fall asleep instantly!

· Dogs must be leashed and bring a water bowl; the stream water is currently low. Kids should be protected from wind and sun!

· The mountain roads have many curves and steep slopes, both beginners and experienced drivers should drive slowly to avoid motion sickness…

❌ Warning: The barbecue stall opposite the first parking lot! It’s expensive, the meat is tough and a bit undercooked. You can buy two skewers in the city for 5 yuan, trust me, don’t try it!
