Tomb of Artaxerxes III – Resting Place of a Persian King 🏛️🇮🇷

#hellohalloween

Hidden among the majestic rock-cut necropolis of Naqsh-e Rostam, near Persepolis, lies the Tomb of Artaxerxes III, one of the Achaemenid Empire’s great rulers.

🪨 What makes it special?

Carved directly into towering cliffs, the tomb is shaped like a grand stone cross — a signature style of Persian royal burials.

The facade is decorated with reliefs showing the king standing before divine symbols, emphasizing his power and connection to the gods.

Positioned alongside other royal tombs, it forms part of an ancient royal cemetery, often called the “Persian Valley of the Kings.”
