Vancouver: Gastown Steam Clock

Gastown, a small town with a history of 150 years, was once the birthplace of Vancouver's gold rush. In 1971, it was designated as a historic preservation area, and to this day, the streets retain their quaint and vintage charm. In 1854, the world's first steam clock was erected in the town. The area around the steam clock is always bustling with tourists, likely intrigued by its unique design. It is said that engineer Raymond Saunders utilized waste steam to power the internal mechanisms, enabling the clock to whistle and chime every 15 minutes. Watching the white steam puff out accompanied by the melodic chimes 🎢🎡 feels like stepping back into the nostalgic era of the late 19th century.

Behind the steam clock, you can spot the Vancouver Lookout. Even before visiting Gastown, I had been gazing at it from afar, filled with curiosity. Many tourists choose to ascend the Lookout, but I find capturing its silhouette from Gastown to be just as picturesque.
