Vang Vieng Viewpoint Nam Xay Observatory & Blue Lagoon

In mid-September, as the rainy season was coming to an end, I was worried about climbing up to the Nam Xay Observatory. However, since the sky was clear, I decided to give it a try. As I had heard, the path to the observatory was indeed very rough and steep. While it might not be a big deal for younger people, it could be extremely challenging for older individuals or those who are not used to physical activity.

That said, once you reach the top, you won't regret it. The view is absolutely breathtaking, and you might even capture a once-in-a-lifetime photo. However, during the rainy season, the weather can change suddenly, with clear skies turning into heavy rain in no time, so you need to be cautious. On my way down after enjoying the view at the summit, it suddenly started pouring, turning the path into a muddy and slippery trail. I almost had to slide down to make it back safely. This is probably why people advise against climbing during the rainy season. Keep this in mind when making your decision.

As for the Blue Lagoon, I visited both Lagoon 1 and 3 during my independent trip. Blue Lagoon 1 is often included in package tours with various activities, so it tends to be crowded with tourists. The lagoon itself is smaller than expected, and it might not feel very special for those who can't swim. On the other hand, Blue Lagoon 3 is more popular among Western tourists who come to enjoy swimming. It has a more tranquil atmosphere, allowing visitors to relax and take their time.
