One of the must-see sights for anyone visiting Vienna is the magnificent St. Stephen’s Cathedral, rising proudly in the center of the city. A fine example of Gothic architecture, this building is a symbol of Vienna, both historically and artistically.
The cathedral’s interior is as impressive as its exterior. High vaulted ceilings rise between Gothic columns, and enormous stained-glass windows fill the space with color and light. The Abbot’s Pulpit dazzles with its detailed stone carvings, while the main organ and Baroque chapels are also worth seeing.
How to get to St. Stephen’s Cathedral?
The cathedral is located on Stephansplatz, right in the heart of Vienna. You can reach it easily by taking the U1 or U3 metro lines and getting off at Stephansplatz station—from there, it’s just a few steps away.
