💞Recommendation reason:
Wakayama is located in the Kii Peninsula south of Osaka. It has a geographical location with mountains and the sea. It is about an hour and a half drive from Osaka. Whether it is history, nature or food, Wakayama is unique. Wakayama Castle is located on Torabashi Mountain in the city center, so it is also called Torabashi Castle.
Transportation strategy: From the West Exit Bus Station of JR Wakayama Station, the one-way trip takes about 15 minutes and costs ¥230. Get off at "Wakayama Castle-mae" station. From the Nankai Electric Railway Wakayama City Station Bus Stop, the one-way trip takes about 8 minutes and costs 200 yen. Get off at the "Wakayama Castle" stop; or walk for 20-25 minutes to reach Wakayama Castle.
Wakayama Castle, built in 1585 by order of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, is the symbol of Wakayama City. Even the stone walls are very sophisticated. The towering stone walls stand firm. The stone slabs under your feet are large and neat. It is not difficult to imagine the construction technology and craftsmanship of the time. The main gates are Ichinobashi and Otemon and Okaguchimon. After passing the Fuhu statue, walk up along the Omotesaka and you will reach the ticket office of the castle tower. Going up the stone steps is the "Second Gate" of the castle tower. Passing through the "Second Gate" will enter the Japanese-style garden. The road paved with white stones is especially slow.
Another feature of Wakayama Castle is that it is a connected flat mountain castle. There is no gate leading directly to the main castle tower. You need to go through the "Kansu Gate" and pass the small castle tower before you can go around. Now precious historical materials are displayed inside, and many Kishu Tokugawa family relics are displayed. Continue to go up to the castle tower observation deck. The top of Fuhu Mountain, the height of the castle tower and the 360-degree view can overlook the entire Wakayama city. After coming down from the castle tower, you will pass through a long corridor, which is also a feature of the connected castle. It feels like you can't get out of the castle. This is a very important building with historical value. Don't miss it when you come to Wakayama.
