WEIFANG

Weifang is a small and simple city slap bang between the giant cities of Jinan and Qingdao. It is famously recognized as the "Kite City", the home of the traditional Chinese kite. HOWEVER, I wouldn't expect to see much kite action in the city if I were you. It's more an ancient past time than a practicing element of modern Weifang culture. It would be wiser to explore the Bailang River.
Getting There - Weifang has a domestic airport, but most travelers arrive via the high-speed train line running from all parts of the country to Qingdao.
Attractions - As mentioned, the Bailang River is the most beautiful part of the city. It runs south to north through the city, with unbroken and well-paved cycling/foot paths running parallel. I recommend a ride south to the genuinely beautiful ShiDi Wetland Park.
Also along the river, and in CBD, is the Kite Museum (not bad for a quick lookaround) and the Taihua Mall. I recommend an evening walk from Taihua, down to the Kite Museum, through the People's Park, then on to Yuandu Bridge. The area is also dotted with a number of 3 star bars.
Hotels - The Pullman Hotel (5 stars), Taihua Pillow Hotel (budget), Oceanwide Hotel (budget)
Food & Restaurants - LaoChengGen Restaurant (local cuisine), Hidilao Hot Pot Restaurant (spicy hot pot), Hippy Burger, Susie's, Movecamp (western style food)
Shopping - Taihua Mall, Wanda Mall, Gooda Mall
