Hidden Little Jiangnan in Shandong

🌟 Shihu Garden in Weifang: A Northern Garden Gem Hidden in the Bustling City

📜 The Past and Present of Shihu Garden
This garden, known as the "Pearl of Eastern Shandong," was originally built in the 11th year of the Guangxu reign of the Qing Dynasty (1885) as the private residence of Ding Shanbao, the richest man in Weixian. The name "Shihu" means "ten hu boards," symbolizing that although the garden is small, it is exquisitely crafted.
We especially recommend staying at hotels near Dongfeng Street (such as Home Inn Business Dongfeng Street Taihua City Branch). It’s just a 5-minute drive from the hotel to Shihu Garden. The underground parking lot at Shihu Garden solves the parking problem for self-driving tourists, making exploring history especially easy.

🏯 Stories of Spring and Autumn in the Garden
1️⃣ Main Hall "Shihu Caotang"
Here lies the secret of the Ding family’s business success.

2️⃣ Sizhao Pavilion
The highest point in the garden hides a warm detail: the hexagonal pavilion has moon gates on every side because Madam Ding was chronically ill. The owner specially designed it so she could enjoy the beauty of all four seasons without leaving the house.
It is still the best spot to capture panoramic photos of Shihu Garden!

3️⃣ Yilan Pavilion Water Scene
What looks like an ordinary pond actually holds a secret: the bottom is covered with glazed ceramic pieces that reflect sparkling light on sunny days. The rockery by the pond is made of Qingzhou strange stones, among which the "Longevity Star Stone," shaped like an old man fishing, is the most popular photo spot.

4️⃣ Western Han Dynasty Stone Reliefs
A pleasant surprise! The garden displays precious cultural relics moved from nearby Han tombs. The rubbings of chariots and horses instantly transport visitors back to Weifang 2,000 years ago.
