The ultimate family trip in Weihai! Half-day tour of Liugong Island, perfect for both elders and kids

How can a trip to Weihai be complete without Liugong Island! Personally tested, traveling with kids + elders is super easy for half a day. All the essential tips are organized here, keep reading👇

🚗 Transportation guide: For self-driving, just navigate to "Liugong Island Passenger Center - Ground Parking Lot" 🅿️, very easy to find~ Liugong Island is located in the sea near Weihai city, it was the base of the Beiyang Navy in the late Qing Dynasty and a memorial site for the First Sino-Japanese War. You can only get to the island by boat, so plan your time in advance~

🚢 Must-do preparations before boarding:
✅ Buy tickets in advance for peace of mind! Includes round-trip ferry tickets + admission, adult tickets are 122 RMB/person. Children under 6 years old or under 1.2 meters tall can enter free with ID. Children between 1.2 meters (exclusive) and 1.5 meters pay only 15 RMB/person for a child ticket, super affordable! You can board by scanning your ID or ticket QR code. If you forget your ID, no worries, just download the Lutong Code for ticket checking. Traveling with elders and kids is no stress, the boat leaves once full, very convenient~
✅ Feeding seagulls is super fun! Prepare some sausages in advance (you can also buy them on the boat). Once on board, rush to the fourth deck (deck limited to 40 people, so hurry) 🌊. When the boat is about 100 meters out, hold up the sausage and interact closely with the seagulls. Kids and elders will go wild with excitement, the interaction is amazing, and it’s great for photos!

🚌 Easy ways to explore after landing:
Don’t rush to buy sightseeing bus tickets right after getting off! First, visit the First Sino-Japanese War Memorial Hall slowly 🏛 to feel the heavy history of "falling behind means being beaten, we must strengthen ourselves." It’s very meaningful to help kids understand this history. After visiting, right outside is the ticket booth for buses, with Line 1 (60 RMB) and Line 2 (80 RMB) options. Personally tested, Line 1 is great value! It covers all popular spots, riding the bus around the island saves energy, elders won’t get tired, kids won’t fuss, the whole trip is super easy~ (Sightseeing bus route map attached, just follow it and you won’t go wrong~)

🏝 Must-visit hidden gems:

First Sino-Japanese War Memorial Hall: A must-see! The historical atmosphere is very strong, and listening to the stories of ancestors with kids is very educational~ You can rent an electronic guide or book a detailed tour in advance to learn more details~
Donghong Battery: Definitely go! You can see the reefs, the sea, and the old battery site. It has both historical significance and beautiful scenery, fulfilling all island expectations~
Submarine: Included in the sightseeing bus ticket! Take the kids inside to experience the hardships of submarine soldiers. Kids stay very focused and gain knowledge~
Weihai Naval Academy: A Qing Dynasty naval school where you can see the curriculum from back then. Few visitors and quiet, the stories of patriotic youth from over 100 years ago resonate with elders and teach kids new things~
Naval Headquarters: The office of the Beiyang Navy admiral in the Qing Dynasty and China’s earliest naval command institution! A tour here lets you feel the changes in naval history, very meaningful~
Zoo: Home to elk and sika deer, you can pay to feed the animals. Kids can play feeding animals for a long time, and parents can take a break~
Expo Park (Whale Pavilion): Features an exhibition on the British concession history and lets kids learn about different whale species 🐳. It’s great to play and learn at the same time, kids find it very interesting~
Dingyuan Battleship: A highlight! A 1:1 replica restoration. Climb the deck, walk into the cabins, and immerse yourself in naval history. It’s truly impressive to bring kids here, this spot must be included!
