The base is a giant panda base rebuilt by the China Giant Panda Research and Conservation Center after the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake. It is located in Shenshuping, Gengda Township, under the administration of the Wolong National Nature Reserve in Sichuan Province, covering an area of about 150 hectares.
