The Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum's grand three-arched gate marks the entrance and gateway to the mausoleum complex. Constructed of Fujian granite, it stands 16 meters high, 27 meters wide, and 8.8 meters deep. The central gate's horizontal plaque is inscribed with Sun Yat-sen's handwritten calligraphy: "天下为公 (The World for All)," a symbol of his lifelong ideal.
Inside the mausoleum gate lies the first courtyard of Changling. This single-eaved, hip-and-gable roofed palace-style building spans five bays. The eaves' lintels, flying balusters, eaves rafters, and single-roof, three-step brackets are all glazed. Beneath these are three red arched gates. A moon platform precedes the mausoleum gate, and wall-mounted corner gates stand to its left and right (since removed and sealed). During the Ming Dynasty, the courtyard housed a five-bay kitchen (on the left) and a five-bay sanctuary (on the right). A stele pavilion stood before the kitchen. Both the kitchen and sanctuary were destroyed in the mid-Qing Dynasty, but the stele pavilion survives to this day.
