Jiangxin Temple

Jiangxin Temple is located on Jiangxin Islet in Lucheng District, Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province. In the seventh year of Xian Tong during the Tang Dynasty (866 AD), the Puji Chan Monastery was built on the east hill of the isolated island in the river. In the second year of Kaibao during the Song Dynasty (969 AD), the Jingxin Jiangyuan was built on the west hill facing the river. In the first year of Shaoxing during the Southern Song Dynasty (1131 AD), Emperor Gaozong bestowed the name Longxiang Chan Temple upon the Puji Chan Monastery. Because the temple is located in the middle of the river, it is commonly known as "Jiangxin Temple." During the reign of Emperor Ningzong of the Song Dynasty, it was selected as one of the ten most important Chan Buddhist monasteries in China. Over the subsequent 800 years, the temple has been repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt.
