Kunming Surroundings Road Trip | Ji Yi Grand Canyon Hiking

Location: Ji Yi Town, Wuding County, Chuxiong Prefecture, along the Jinsha River.

🚩 Itinerary:

Day 1:
👉 9:00 AM: Gather at Exit D of Kunming North Railway Station Metro and set off. After an exciting journey, you’ll arrive at Ji Yi Grand Canyon around 2:30 PM. On the way, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant in Wuding to Ji Yi, where you can order whatever you like without any menu restrictions—how awesome is that?
👉 Upon arrival at Ji Yi, the vehicle will stop near the canyon entrance, close to the natural bridge. You can then start a 3-kilometer round-trip hike to explore the Ji Yi Grand Canyon. Along the way, you’ll see vast fields of marigolds planted by locals, and if you’re lucky, you might even encounter groups of wild monkeys.
👉 4:30 PM: Head to the Shenqi Gorge Base Camp for rope descent training, which lasts about 2 hours. During the training, you can also try the tree swing activity, with coaches accompanying you throughout for safety.
👉 6:30 PM: Enjoy a local farmhouse dinner with seasonal fruits and beverages provided. After dinner, it’s free time! You can paddleboard at the base camp for free, or join others for a barbecue, chat, and stargazing—pure bliss.

Day 2:
👉 8:00 AM: After breakfast, set off for the rock descent point, passing four waterfalls and trekking through Shenlong Valley.
👉 The thrilling Guoquan Rock descent includes:
- First section: A 45-meter descent to a bamboo raft, followed by a 10-meter pulley lift and a 9-meter horizontal via ferrata traverse.
- Second section: A 20-meter waterfall descent.
- Third section: A 5-meter waterfall descent.
- Fourth section: A 20-meter zipline leap over a waterfall.
👉 After completing the descent, hike back through the river valley to the base camp for lunch. Coaches will guide you throughout, and drones and action cameras will capture your exciting moments. If you wish to swim or float on a buoyant bed, just let the coach know—they’ll do their best to accommodate your requests.

💡 Tips:
- During the river valley hike, be sure to protect yourself from the sun and stay hydrated to avoid heatstroke. Bring insect repellent spray to prevent bites.
- If you plan to go into the water, pack an extra swimsuit and wear water shoes to avoid injuring your feet on rocks.

💰 Costs:
👉 Kunming Pickup: $990/person, including equipment use, insurance, accommodation, and two lunches, two dinners, and one breakfast. No hidden fees or additional charges.
👉 Wuding Pickup: $890/person. Depart from your location to Wuding County, where there’s a free parking lot near the highway toll station. The driver will pick you up from there.
👉 Self-Drive: $790/person, including one breakfast, one lunch, and one dinner. However, the drive from Wuding County to Ji Yi takes about 3-4 hours on winding mountain roads, with potential risks of falling rocks and landslides during the rainy season—not highly recommended.
