As a busy worker in Wuhan, are you always looking forward to a spontaneous weekend getaway? Then come to Wuhai! In just 3 days and 2 nights, you can explore this hidden gem of a city, see the "sea" in the desert, discover the wonders of the grasslands, and experience the joy of traveling like you have the place to yourself!
Itinerary
Day 1: Head to Wuhai and witness the sunset at Mount Gander

🏜️Activities: Head straight to Mount Gander in the afternoon! Take the cable car (CNY 80) to the top and admire the world's tallest statue of Genghis Khan. Walk along the ridge trail and feast your eyes on the magnificent view of the Yellow River and the desert. Around 18:00, wait for the sunset and watch the golden afterglow spread across the grasslands—a truly awe-inspiring and healing experience.
🍖Dinner: Visit the time-honored MengGaofang Restaurant and savor authentic hand-grabbed mutton and yogurt pancakes. Enjoy a satisfying meal for just CNY 60 per person.
🏨Accommodation: Choose a hotel by Wuhai Lake and enjoy the stunning "sea" view from your window.
Day 2: Explore Wuhai Lake and Laseng Temple
📸Must-do: In the morning, go to Wuhai Lake Pier No. 1 and take a speedboat (CNY 98) into the "Venice of the Desert". With crystal-clear waters on one side and rolling sand dunes on the other, put on a red dress, stand on top of a dune, and take stunning photos. Bring a drone for even more amazing aerial shots!
🛕Afternoon: Take a 40-min taxi ride to Laseng Temple. This hidden gem of Tibetan Buddhism is free to the public. Its white walls and golden roofs resemble a miniature Potala Palace. Spin the prayer wheels, feel the power of faith, and rent Tibetan clothing (CNY 50/set) at the entrance for a memorable photoshoot.
🌌Evening: Stroll through the night market at People's Square in the city center, enjoy a bowl of freshly brewed brick tea with beizi, and immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of Northwest China.
Day 3: Self-drive on the grassland highway and return
🛣️Free travel: Rent a car (CNY 200/d) and drive along the Wuhai Lake loop road in the morning. Encounter herds of camels along the way, with the azure "sea" shore as the perfect backdrop for your road trip photos.
✈️Return: Depart for the airport before 14:00 after lunch and arrive back in Wuhan by 18:00, marking the perfect end to your 48-hour escape.
Super Practical Travel Tips
✅Desert attire: Wear a long red or white dress with cowboy boots, a sun hat, and sunglasses for a fashionable and sun-safe look.
✅Money-saving tip: Purchase a combined ticket for Wuhai Lake and the speedboat to save 20%. Laseng Temple is free, saving you even more money.
