Wulai Scenic Railway

The only remaining light rail in Taiwan, it offers a glimpse into Taiwan’s transportation history before the highway era. Designed by the Japanese government in 1928 to transport lumber, logging tools, tea and passengers, after the highway was completed in 1951, most of the railway was dismantled, except for a 1.6 km section. However, as the logging and timber industries declined, the rails were converted to transport tourists. In 1964, the railway was upgraded to two tracks to increase capacity.
