Wulai Xikeng Forest Trail - Easy to walk and less crowded; a secret place for water play in summer

There are three famous forest trails in Wulai: Tonghou Forest Trail, Neidong Forest Trail, and Xikeng Forest Trail; the most commonly heard ones are Tonghou Forest Trail and Neidong Forest Trail, while Xikeng Forest Trail is less well known.

During the Japanese occupation period, the Japanese army built an airport in Yuanshan, Yilan. In order to protect the secrecy of transporting personnel and materials, a military road was built. Legend has it that it was the route from "Xikeng Forest Trail" to Yuanshan.

At the beginning, the first 1.2 kilometers of Xikeng Forest Trail are spacious and obvious. After that, the road radius narrows to a single track. A total of four streams are crossed to the Ayu Valley (about 4.5K) where the two waterfalls meet. This is currently the best end point. The valley has a wide view and you can step on the water for a short time to enjoy the beauty of the natural mountain valley.
