I wanted to escape to an unfamiliar place lush with greenery, mountains, and water, to enjoy solitude and find personal healing.
So I embarked on a journey to Wushan.
I’ve long been enchanted by the Yangtze River’s Three Gorges—where towering peaks, rushing waters, and misty clouds create a breathtaking ecological corridor.
For accommodation, I chose Muyuan in the Clouds. Nestled within the Wenfeng Scenic Area at an altitude of 700 meters, it’s a tranquil retreat, secluded from the world.
The room blends rustic wood tones with wild mountain charm, yet is so well-equipped you’d forget you’re in the hills. The floor-to-ceiling windows frame the Three Gorges’ dragon spine like a dynamic wallpaper. Waking to birdsong, I caught a glimpse of the Goddess Peak veiled in mist; by evening, leaning on the windowsill, I watched the Yangtze curve as the sunset turned the river into golden foil—filling my phone’s album effortlessly.
Here, you’ll taste Wushan’s culinary delights. The crisp Wushan plums burst with juice, sweet as candy spun from clouds. The grilled fish, freshly caught from the river and coated in pickled pepper sauce, is so crispy even the bones are fragrant—paired with plum wine, it’s irresistible. Breakfast is equally hearty, fueling the day ahead.
Feel like exploring? Hike the Three Gorges’ dragon spine—the homestay is at the trailhead, just 15 minutes to the viewpoint. Prefer to laze? Curl up on the balcony and watch clouds drift past the Goddess Peak’s shoulders.
Time moves slowly here, with days spent in healthy, beautiful rhythms, granting freedom to wander and daydream. I finally understand why martial arts heroes in novels retreat to the mountains—life here may be unhurried, but it’s pure happiness.
