That day we visited the Great Mosque in Xi'an. This mosque is located in Huajue Lane in the old city of Xi'an. It is one of the earliest mosques in Xi'an and one of the four largest mosques in China. The temple covers an area of about 13,000 square meters, with a construction area of more than 6,000 square meters.
The Great Mosque is a rectangular building running east-west and is divided into four courtyards. It was built in the first year of the Tianbao reign of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty (742 AD) and has a history of nearly 1,300 years. The mosque is well preserved and has been repaired over the generations.
During the heyday of the Tang Dynasty, Xi'an was a city where Buddhist culture was prevalent, and religious buildings of various faiths were built here one after another. In addition to Buddhist temples and Taoist temples, there are also two historic mosques in the Hui Muslim community, namely the Daxuexiang Mosque and the Huajuexiang Grand Mosque.
The Great Mosque of Xi'an is one of the most unforgettable places I visited during this trip. It carries a rich history and culture, and made me deeply feel the spirit of religious diversity and inclusion in ancient China.
