The Mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang (Terracotta Army) is a must-visit destination when traveling to Xi'an. The grandeur and intricacy of the terracotta soldiers make it one of UNESCO's World Heritage Sites and a destination that attracts tourists from all over the world.
Upon arrival, the first impression is the vastness of the museum and the systematic display. The main highlight is “Pit 1,” a large pit filled with life-sized statues of soldiers and horses, each with unique faces, postures, and details. Additionally, there are “Pit 2” and “Pit 3,” which represent different military units, providing a deeper understanding of ancient military strategies.
What makes this place special is the story behind it. The mausoleum was built under the command of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China, to serve as an army to protect him in the afterlife. It was accidentally discovered in 1974 by local farmers.
For the visit, it is recommended to allocate about half a day or a full day to explore all sections thoroughly. For more detailed information, hiring a local guide to explain the historical background is advisable.
Overall, the Mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang is an astonishing and mysterious place, well worth the visit!
