Xiangtan Wanlou

Xiangtan Wanlou, also known as Wenchang Pavilion and Wenqi Tower, is known as the "No. 1 Tower in Xiangjiang River". Wanlou is located on the bank of the Xiangjiang River, at Songjiaqiao, downstream of the Xiangtan Sanqiao. It was first built in the 43rd year of the Wanli reign of the Ming Dynasty and has a history of more than 400 years. It was built under the supervision of Xiangtan County Magistrate Bao Hongkui to make up for the low-lying terrain and prevent the water from the Xiangjiang River from draining quickly.
The total height of Wanlou is 63.48 meters, of which the main building is 52.58 meters. It adopts a reinforced concrete structure with nine inner floors and five outer floors, symbolizing "the supreme ruler". Its exterior design incorporates the solemnity and elegance of royal courtyards and temples, as well as the tender features of Jiangnan folk houses such as horse-head walls, cat-arch back walls, and gray tiles. The main attractions of the scenic area include: Wanlou Main Building, Nanxuan Garden, Xiuwen Garden, Geyin Corridor, Dengsheng Corridor, Hongkui Square, Fengyin Square, Cross-River Telegraph Room, etc.
Xiangtan Wanlou is currently open to the public free of charge, but there is an additional charge for the playback of electronic images within the building and the electronic imaging of visitors' personal history.
