II. Transportation Guide

1. By car: Navigate directly to "Maoling Museum." It's about a 1-hour drive from downtown Xi'an and about 30 minutes from downtown Xianyang. The parking lot is large, making parking easy.

2. Public transportation:

- From downtown Xi'an: Take Subway Line 1 to Baoquan Road. Exit from Exit A and take Bus No. 4 to the Xi Wu bus stop. Then, take a taxi for about 4 km.

- From downtown Xianyang: Take the Xingping No. 4 bus from Renmin West Road. If the distance is short, you can also choose to cycle.

III. Highlights

1. Maoling Mausoleum of Emperor Wu of Han: The largest of the Western Han imperial tombs, it is known as the "Eastern Pyramid." Construction began the year after Emperor Wu of Han ascended the throne and lasted 53 years. The mausoleum is grand in scale, and the burial objects are said to be so numerous that "there was no more room for them." Although there is no underground palace, only a tall earthen mound, one can sense the power and majesty of the Han Dynasty. Standing in front of the mausoleum, imagining the brilliant strategies of Emperor Wu of Han, it's as if you've traveled through time back to that era of valiant warriors and charging horses.

2. Tomb of Huo Qubing: Huo Qubing, a renowned general, fought on the battlefield from the age of 18, achieving numerous military exploits. After his untimely death, he was buried alongside Maoling. His tomb is shaped like the Qilian Mountains to commemorate his outstanding military achievements. On both sides of the tomb are the earliest, largest, most complete, and most artistically valuable large-scale stone carvings discovered in China to date. Among the 16 stone carvings, 12 have been identified as "national treasures." Works such as "Horse Tramping on Xiongnu" and "Leaping Horse" are carved with concise techniques, using the stone to mimic shapes, vividly and realistically, leaving viewers in awe.

3. Cultural Relics Exhibition Hall: The museum houses numerous precious cultural relics, such as the gilt bronze horse, a treasure of the museum. Its lifelike shape evokes the robust figure of the ancient Ferghana horse. Other artifacts include the gilt silver bamboo-joint bronze incense burner, the four-gods jade ornament, and the gold and silver inlaid cloud-patterned bronze rhinoceros zun. Each piece embodies the culture and art of the Western Han Dynasty, showcasing the superb craftsmanship and aesthetic taste of the ancients.

IV. Tour Route

Upon entering the park, you'll first see a large pool, rockery, and flowing fountains, reminiscent of a royal garden, perfect for taking photos. Then, proceed to the Cultural Relics Exhibition Hall and visit each exhibition hall in turn to learn about the history and culture of the Western Han Dynasty and the stories behind the artifacts. Afterward, head to the Tomb of Huo Qubing to admire the awe-inspiring stone carvings and climb the mound for a panoramic view of the museum. 1. Smoking is prohibited inside the museum.

2. The museum is quite large, like a miniature Forbidden City, so bring enough food and water.
