Nanguan Mosque is the core of faith for Muslims in Xining and a silent guardian of the city’s culture. It is located in the bustling city, but it is a quiet place of its own. The arches, spires and green domes, a fusion of Islamic and Central Plains architectural styles, made me respect them at first sight. Whenever the worship time approaches, believers come in one after another with pious expressions, which is very moving.
I followed the crowd into the mosque courtyard and listened to the sound of chanting slowly rising in the distance. It was a language that penetrated the soul.
