Xinpu Park is the oldest urban park in Lianyungang, with planning beginning in 1956. Located in the southern part of Xinpu's old city, it lies south of Longhai Pedestrian Street, west of Nanji Road, bordered by the Xiyan River to the west, and Hailian Road to the south. It covers an area of 110 mu (16.17 mu of which is water and 93.82 mu is land).
In 2000, with the widening and opening of Hailian Middle Road, the park demolished all the storefronts on the south wall and transformed it into a stone wall foundation and a stainless steel hollow wall. A new south gate of the park was built, and an open-air swimming pool was built on the west side of the south gate, which enhanced the transparency of the park's greening and added a scene to the urban construction. The park's greenhouse cultivates various Clivia, Camellia, Rhododendron, White Orchid, Milan, Strelitzia, etc., as well as ornamental plants such as Araucaria, Giant Cedar, Cycad, etc. The bonsai garden has bonsai such as tree pillars and rocks for visitors to appreciate, appreciate the poetic and artistic meaning of bonsai, and cultivate their sentiments. The park currently has 86 green tree species totaling more than 3,000 plants and more than 370 flower varieties.
The park was originally a public institution with all funds invested by the government. With the reform and opening up, the park was changed to a subsidy-funded institution, and most of its funds are generated by its own income. The park's current economic income mainly comes from the rental of the gate, zoo, children's playground, park storefronts, and venues within the park. It receives 250,000 to 300,000 tourists annually and is a national second-level park.
