Zhanjiang & Xuwen 3-Day, 2-Night In-Depth Tour | Chikan Old Street, Antarctic Village, and a Seaview Designer Apartment: Check-In Guide

Zhanjiang has always been a popular getaway destination in Guangdong. My 3-Day, 2-Night itinerary included Zhanjiang's main city, accommodation in a seaview apartment, a stroll through Chikan Old Street, a chartered car ride to Xuwen's "Chinese Mainland Antarctic Village," a sea of pineapples, and a return to downtown Zhanjiang for a relaxing break at Stone Dog Coffee and authentic Zhanjiang chicken! Compared to Guangzhou and Shenzhen, Zhanjiang definitely has a slower-paced getaway feel, with a quintessential island vibe. 🌊

🛏️ Accommodation Highlight: Direct Ocean Views of Golden Sands Bay
For this trip, I stayed at the "Guanhai·Designer Apartment (Zhanjiang Golden Sands Bay Scenic Area Branch)" on the 27th floor, Building B, Poly West Coast Garden, 8 Guangzhou Bay Avenue. The location is superb, within walking distance of Golden Sands Bay, Red-billed Gull Pier, and the seaside promenade. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlook the ocean, and the sunrise and sunset views are truly breathtaking! The duplex-style rooms are spacious, with generally good sanitation and amenities. The 24-hour front desk service is exceptionally attentive. Even minor issues like dampness were proactively addressed by the housekeepers, who were incredibly attentive.

🗓️ Recommended Itinerary

Day 1: Zhanjiang City, Chikan Old Street

On your first day in Zhanjiang, it's recommended to check into your apartment and drop off your luggage before taking a bus to Chikan Old Street. The old street is rich in culture, allowing you to stroll leisurely through the old buildings, take photos, and enjoy a leisurely stroll along the way. There are also snack shops along the way, perfect for a leisurely afternoon.

Day 2: Xuwen: Sea of Pineapples + Antarctic Village

In the morning, it's recommended to book a chartered car or self-drive tour to explore Xuwen. Your first stop will be the "Sea of Pineapples," a magnificent expanse of pineapple fields (even more spectacular during the pineapple season from April to August). Your second stop is definitely Antarctic Village in mainland China. Located in Jiaowei Township, Xuwen County, Zhanjiang City, it's open year-round and features unique photo spots like the cape and windmill fields, perfect for photo ops. If you're traveling with a large group, chartering a car is more convenient than taking the bus, especially since Xuwen is quite a distance from the main city. You might also want to try some local fresh-cut pineapples or pineapple drinks along the way to replenish your energy.

Day 3: Relaxing Coffee in the City + a Zhanjiang Chicken Feast

Before returning, enjoy the slow pace of life in Zhanjiang. We recommend visiting Shigou Coffee (a popular local cafe) for its signature hand-poured coffee in a comfortable setting. For lunch, make a reservation at "Sen Ji He Tian Fang" and savor the Zhanjiang chicken. The chicken is tender and springy, and the authentic white-cut chicken is a must-try, highly recommended by many locals! After your meal, stroll along the Jinsha Seaview Promenade to soak up the island atmosphere.

📍Practical Tips
1. Zhanjiang boasts convenient transportation. You can call Didi or ask your apartment manager for assistance with taxis to major attractions.
2. The apartment's floor-to-ceiling windows offer superb ocean views, but if you notice any dampness, please report it immediately; your manager can arrange for a dehumidifier.
3. Sneakers are comfortable for walking along Chikan Old Street. Snack shops specialize in tofu pudding, fish balls, and more. 4. The pineapple fields are best visited in the morning or evening, so avoid the midday heat and remember to apply sunscreen.
5. Antarctic Village is open year-round, but the wind can be strong at the beach, so bring a hat or jacket.

Zhanjiang's slow pace and ocean views, combined with Xuwen's diverse rural scenery, made this three-day trip incredibly relaxing. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of Zhanjiang's local coffee and food. I'd love to stay longer and explore more next time!
