Summer always seems to be the season for lobster feasts. For people in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Shanghai, the first thing that comes to mind when hearing "lobster" is Xuyi crayfish. Coincidentally, Xuyi makes for a perfect weekend getaway from Shanghai.
The journey from Shanghai to Xuyi takes about 4-5 hours. If you're not in a hurry to eat lobster, your first stop could be Tieshan Temple at Tianquan Lake. As Xuyi's iconic tourist attraction, though remote, it offers excellent stargazing and sunrise experiences. You can stay at Jinling Mountain Villa, explore Tieshan Temple and Tianquan Lake the next day, then head to the county town~
For family lobster feasts, Hong Pangpang comes highly recommended—endorsed by locals and seeing them take away orders proves its reliability. Behind Hong Pangpang is Ke Street, also lined with crayfish restaurants worth trying if you're interested.
Before heading back, visit Xiangshan National Mining Park. Under the morning sun, the deep blue "eye" of the mine becomes even more stunning—a local "Maldives"😂
Don't set overly high expectations for Xuyi. Approach this ordinary crayfish county with an open mind, and you might find unexpected delights.
