Location: Tinghu District, Yancheng, Jiangsu Province, China

A 2,000-year-old "Salt Capital" along the Yellow Sea coast, Yandu Ancient Town was once the epicenter of China’s imperial salt trade. Its name (盐渎, "Salt Ferry") nods to the salt-laden boats that once crowded its canals. Today, restored Qing Dynasty salt warehouses and brine wells offer a whiff of this lucrative history.
