[Yancheng, World Natural Heritage Site] It's a thrill to see a red-crowned crane and a taxi

The Red-crowned Crane Wetland Ecotourism Area is located in the eastern part of Yancheng City, Jiangsu Province, and is a World Heritage Site as a habitat for Yellow Sea migratory birds. It is 4km to go around about one third of the park, and 8km to go around the whole park, so I rented a bicycle and went around.

About 1km from the entrance is the Red-crowned Crane Rescue and Breeding Center, where there were about 10 red-crowned cranes. When I approached, the red-crowned cranes came over with interest. They are used to people and are very cute. It was my first time to see them up close, so I was able to observe them carefully.

After that, I got on my bicycle and looked for the red-crowned cranes, but I couldn't find them anywhere... I guess they fly around in the daytime in search of food. I went up to the observation deck and was able to find only one bird using the fixed telescope there (which was free!)!!

I tried to call a taxi on the way back, but I couldn't catch one for about 20 minutes. It's difficult to find both the red-crowned cranes and taxis in this area, so make sure you have plenty of time.

Visit date: January 20, 2011
Just under an hour by taxi from Yancheng Station on the high-speed rail, or about two hours by bus
