I always thought I knew all about Guangdong's beautiful scenery, but this trip to Yangjiang completely blew me away! Who knew there was such a stunning island paradise hidden here?
This Chinese New Year, our family of five (plus our pet dog) drove 1,700 kilometers from Chengdu to Hailing Island in Yangjiang. We rented two sea-view apartments at an incredible value - just 1,200 yuan per month! With soft sandy beaches and crystal-clear pools right downstairs, waking up to the sound of waves and opening our windows to blue seas and skies made this the perfect vacation.
This place is truly fun for all ages: our uncles who love fishing would return with full catches whether they went sea fishing or reservoir fishing; the aunties changed outfits daily for fabulous seaside photoshoots; and the kids had endless fun digging in the sand, beachcombing for crabs, shells, and conches - they never wanted to leave!
The apartment facilities were incredibly thoughtful, with a supermarket and mahjong room downstairs catering to both elderly and young guests. The local market just 3km away offered fresh, affordable ingredients. Mornings began with authentic dim sum, and evenings featured freshly bought and cooked seafood - pure bliss!
We even vacationed with friends this time - six families totaling over 30 people celebrating the New Year together. Watching sunrises and sunsets, beachcombing, digging in the sand, and setting off fireworks - all our seaside vacation dreams came true here!
Travel Tips:
1. Comfortable 20°C weather - perfect for spring/autumn clothing
2. Renting electric scooters is super convenient for getting around the island
3. Must-visit spots: Ten-Mile Silver Beach, Beiluo Secret Realm, Mangrove Forest Park, and Dina Hai Reef - great for both photos and hiking
4. Apartments have kitchens and offer budget-friendly options
5. Just 30 minutes' drive to downtown with more water activities and dining choices
6. Don't forget sunscreen - the seaside UV rays are strong!
