🌄 Yangshuo in the off-season is amazing! 1.5 hours by high-speed train, this cycling route is stunningly beautiful.
Girls, I just got back from Yangshuo and have to recommend this hidden gem of a cycling route nestled among the mountains and rivers! 🚴♀️ Went in late October to avoid the crowds, and we practically had the entire Yulong River to ourselves~
🚄 Super convenient transportation
Depart from Guangzhou, 1.5 hours by high-speed train directly to Yangshuo Station, then a short shuttle bus ride to the county town. Perfect for a spontaneous weekend trip with no stress!
🌈 Highlights of the cycling route
Start: Gongnong Bridge (don’t navigate to "Shili Gallery," that’s actually National Highway 321; search for Gongnong Bridge for the real scenic starting point)
End: Fuli Bridge (a secret Ming Dynasty ancient bridge, known as the most beautiful ancient bridge on the Yulong River)
🗺️ Detailed route plan
Gongnong Bridge → Anzaiye Homestay (famous swing photo spot) → Yulong Huaying Daoxiang Scenic Area → Jima Wharf → Shuangliu Yidu Pavilion → Village Haruki → Xiandu Pavilion → Yulong Bridge → Jinlong Bridge → Fuli Bridge
⏰ Best time suggestion
Arrive at Fuli Bridge Wharf around 3-4 PM for the perfect light! The soft lighting at this time is golden for capturing reflections of the ancient bridge. Plus, it avoids the harsh midday sun, making cycling more comfortable.
📸 Must-photograph spots
1. Fuli Bridge: 500-year-old Ming Dynasty ancient bridge, the bridge arch reflection looks like a full moon, filming location of the movie "Liu Sanjie"
2. Yulong Bridge: 600-year-old historic stone bridge, standing on it offers stunning views of distant mountains and nearby waters
3. Shuangliu Yidu Pavilion: S-shaped rice field path, excellent pastoral scenery
4. Gongnong Bridge: Sunset viewing spot, great place to capture panoramic views of the Yulong River
🚲 Bike rental tips
- Rent bikes in the county town for 20-30 RMB/day, electric bikes have enough range
- Don’t rent three-wheeled covered bikes, the paths are too narrow to drive easily
- If it’s late, try to bargain; definitely don’t rent if the price is over 50 RMB
💡 Practical reminders
- The whole route is about 20 km, including photo stops it takes around 3-4 hours
- The Yulong River trail is narrow and surrounded by farmland, recommend cycling under 15 km/h
- Prepare sun protection and mosquito repellent; wear non-slip shoes if you plan to play in the water in summer
- It’s hard to get a taxi back, so self-driving or booking a car in advance is recommended
Yangshuo in the off-season has crystal-clear river water with mirror-like reflections, every photo looks like a landscape painting! The "full moon" reflection at Fuli Bridge is especially easy to capture this season, with no tourists disturbing, allowing you to enjoy this peaceful mountain and water secret spot alone~🌄
This route avoids the usual tourist bus routes, cycling along the Yulong River with the river breeze carrying the scent of rice fields, each segment brings different surprises. Perfect for sisters who want to deeply experience Yangshuo’s landscapes without the crowds! 👭
